The most beautiful wedding photography locations in Bosnia and Herzegovina
From the banks of the Vrbas to the Old Bridge in Mostar: the places I return to most gladly with my camera, and why the location is never more important than the two of you.

When a couple asks me at our first meeting where we should take the photographs, I usually answer with a question of my own: where do the two of you feel most like yourselves? Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country where an hour of driving takes you from a canyon to a vineyard, and from a city fortress to a mountain meadow. Finding locations is never the problem. The problem is that you have to choose.
So I put together a list of the places I return to most gladly with my camera. This is not a tourist guide. This is the view of a man who looks for three things at every one of these locations: light, a clean background and enough quiet for the two of you to forget about everything else for half an hour.
The Vrbas and the area around Banja Luka
The banks of the Vrbas river are the first thing I think of for portraits in nature. Water calms the frame, the willows give soft shade even at noon, and the greenery along the river stays fresh from April deep into October. Kastel adds stone and texture, so in a single afternoon you can get both romance by the water and a more serious city tone, without ever driving longer than ten minutes.
Banj brdo I save for the end of the day. A view over the city at sunset, a little wind in the veil and portraits that breathe with space.
Old towns and fortresses
Jajce is, for me, the most rewarding old town in the country: a fortress above the rooftops, cobblestones, gates and a waterfall right in the centre. The stone of old towns has a quality I value especially as a photographer. It knows nothing of trends, so a photograph taken by those walls looks just as good today as it will in twenty years.
Similar backdrops are hidden all over Krajina. If you are attached to your own part of the country, ask me about it. There is almost always a wall, a gate or a narrow lane nearby that carries a whole frame.
Rivers and waterfalls
Vrelo Bosne is a classic for a reason you only see in the photographs. The water bounces light back into faces, so portraits in the shade of the trees get a soft, even tone that is hard to achieve anywhere else. The waterfall in Jajce and the rapids of the Una river do the same job, with a sound that relaxes couples better than any sentence of mine.
By the water I always plan an extra fifteen minutes. In my experience, nobody leaves a river on the first call.
Herzegovina: Mostar and Trebinje
The Old Bridge needs no introduction, but I rarely shoot it as a postcard. I prefer the narrow streets around the bridge, stone polished by footsteps and the southern light bouncing off the walls, so the frames come out both ours and slightly Mediterranean. Trebinje is a calmer story. Plane trees, the old quarter and that Herzegovinian golden afternoon that seems to last longer than it does up north.
If the celebration is in the north and your heart pulls south, a session for the two of you a few days after the wedding is the solution couples most often accept with relief.
Mountains: Vlašić and Jahorina
When a couple wants space, we go up. In summer Vlašić and Jahorina give you meadows and a horizon without a single building, and on the right day clouds under your feet. In the mountains I build the schedule around the light, because sunset at altitude can be a spectacle, but the wind is part of the deal too. A warm jacket in the boot and half an hour of walking are worth every frame you bring back from up there.
In winter the story becomes even quieter. Snow soaks up every sound, and a couple in coats in the middle of all that white looks like a frame from a film.
Why the location must not beat the emotion
After everything listed above, I owe you one confession. The location is the seasoning, not the main course. The most beautiful frames in my gallery were not created because of a spectacular background, but because the couple was completely themselves in that moment. That is why we choose the place according to you and to where your heart is, even if that means the yard of a family house.
The perfect location is the one where you forget the camera exists.
